For someone interested in textile arts or the medieval Islamic world, inclined towards museum work after graduation, this project surrounding textiles recovered from the former royal city of Rayy, Iran (now subsumed by modern Tehran) could offer exciting possibilities. The student would participate in technical analyses of the textiles, be responsible for maintaining and updating their documentation, develop imaging and reconstruction of the fragments, and interact with the many collaborators on the Rayy Expedition project. Possibility of travel to Philadelphia to research at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where the archaeological textiles are housed.

Student Qualifications

A passion for art history and/or historical textiles & fashion
Ability to think creatively and out-of-the-box
Familiarity with Persian or Arabic is a plus
Prior experience with databasing or recordkeeping desireable
