Survivors of the Underground Railroad after the Civil War

Abstract
This project was ask two students to research survivors of the Underground Railroad after the Civil War. Comparing databases created by previous summer researchers with ancestry.com, America's Historical Newspapers, studentt will attempt to identity the life experiences of self-emancipated African Americans. The goal is to find anywhere from 100-150 such stories. These stories will be part of the concluding chapter of Black Flight in the Americas, 1500-1877. Students optimarlly will perform this research in Case Library. I will be on campus much of the time spent on research and will meet weekly with the students.
Student Qualifications
History Methods (H199) preferred; otherwise a general knowledge of American History.
