We conceive mathematical puzzles (singularities) and try to implement them with light. In the lab we work with lasers, program a device that generates the beam of light that we want, and then use some optics methods to manipulate the light. Matlab is used for analysis. Ongoing work includes the simulation of light undergoing gravitational lensing to see Einstein rings and arcs. Other problems we may work on include the quantum mechanics of the pendulum using light beams, and producing 3-dimensional optical polarization "hedgehog" patterns.
