Research has shown that plastics may release plastic additives over time. In addition, hydrophobic and lipophilic chemicals may accumluate in plastics in the environment. Will plastic retain or release chemicals different when it is microsized? What chemicals will interact with plastics? Under what condition? These are some of the questions we will be answering during the summer.

Student Qualifications

EH&S lab safety training (prior to working in the lab). The project requires computer and lab skills. Some knowledge of chemistry and microbiology may be helpful but not necessary.
