Abstract

Student researchers will use my existing database on self-emancipated people in early America. Students will crosscheck names from databases into genealogy.com, various newspaper databases, African American biographies, and social security death index to determine, as best able, the lives of slavery's survivors and their descendants. Expected outcomes will be advanced knowledge on the importance of the UGRR over time. This research is an important, completing aspect of a long-term study of black flight in the Americas, 1600-1870 and beyond.
