Student researchers will use my existing database on self-emancipated people in early America. Students will crosscheck names from databases into, various newspaper databases, African American biographies, and social security death index to determine, as best able, the lives of slavery's survivors and their descendants. Expected outcomes will be advanced knowledge on the importance of the UGRR over time. This research is an important, completing aspect of a long-term study of black flight in the Americas, 1600-1870 and beyond. 

Student Qualifications

sophomores and above, solid 3.0 and above GPA. optimally good knowledge and course work in early American and African American history. if I am not familiar with the applicant, please supply a faculty reference.
