The project will involve learning how to create specific geometries of chiral-nematic liquid crystal arrangements within cells and sperical droplets. We are interested in learning how to produce and diagnose arrangements of liquid-crystal molecules that have a specific chirality. The purpose of these arrangements is for studying their effect on light beams, and how chiral light beams interacts with them.
Physics background and ability to learn polarization optics. Chemistry background desirable.
